Amazon.com Product Description
Bring the future of television into your home today with the 27-inch ViewSonic N2700W HD-ready LCD widescreen television. Only 8.9 inches thick, it can be easily wall mounted. It has a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution, 170-degree viewing angle, 500:1 contrast ratio, 16:9 aspect ratio, motion-adaptive progressive scan, 3D comb filter, and 3:2 pulldown capabilities. With the Picture-Over-Data window feature, you can watch a movie while surfing the Internet. It also features two built-in speakers that deliver 20 watts of total stereo sound.

The super-fast 16 ms video response time brings gaming and movies to life with crisp, lifelike video. The 3:2 pulldown cinema video processing detects and compensates film--which is shot at 24 frames per second (fps) compared with video's 30 fps rate--to video for a smooth, theaterlike experience at home. The 3D digital comb filter renders superb gradation of grays, resulting in superior picture detail.

The integrated DVI-HDCP input gives you the best HDTV images regardless of your signal source. The N2700W also offers 1 component-video, 1 composite A/V, and 1 DVI input. It can be hooked up to your PC, and is compatible with VGA up to 1280 x 1024 noninterlaced (1280 x 720 preferred) from either a Windows PC or a Power Mac G3/G4 (adapter may be required).

Tech Talk
Aspect ratio: The aspect ratio refers to the shape of the video image. Standard television has a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is almost square in appearance. Digital television will have either a 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio, which is widescreen and appears rectangular, looking more like a movie screen and filling more of the viewer's field of vision for a more lifelike viewing experience.

3 out of 5 stars Finally the 2700W is repaired   June 20, 2010
Rocky (Hong Kong)
I got this 2700W TV from a friend, who asked me to fix it. (but he later chosen to buy another TV) He used it for 2 years and experienced all sorts of problems. The screen mess up after turn on for 1-2 hours, and power supply overheat and smell came of from it.

I got the TV in winter 2009, after replacing capacitors (voltage regulating components inside), it works in evening but not in the morning. I assumed that it is a thermo problem and left it aside. In order to rule out if the problem came from the power supply, I mail ordered a supply of the same specification.

The new power supply works fine, but picture still mess up after around 1 hours of operation.

Recently, I opened a 32mm hole at the back of the TV, added a small fan which sucks away hot air from the main chip. All problems were gone and it works great.

I don't understand how Viewsonic can make a 180 watts power supply so small, only double of the size of typical 45W notebook power supply. I disassembled the problematic power supply. I found that the components were very closely packed. Although it comes with a noisy small fan, the air path was probraly obstructed.

After repair, I like this TV. The menu is easy to use, come with PIP (picture in picture). The screen quality is good and I could not find any dead spot on the LCD panel.

I don't under why Viewsonic not to work better on the overheat problem. Viewsonic is cheap to buy, I will still consider it if they have some improve on the abovesaid issues.

4 out of 5 stars Great PC Monitor   September 14, 2007
C. Swallows (Gainesville, FL United States)
I have been using the Viewsonic 2700W as a PC monitor for over 19 months and have been very happy with it. Just make sure that you have the latest driver for your video card and it will work fine with sharp screen images and text. One problem that you may encounter with the video driver is that some cards will automatically recognize the monitor and download their driver. However, that driver may have a max resolution of 1280x720 whereas many software programs are now requiring a min resolution of 1024x768 and won't work with the monitor's native resolution. So make sure your video drivers are capable of higher resolutions.

Also, the complaints about the noise from the power supply are justifiable. It is a design flaw in the FSP-180-1ADE11 but the noise is not noticable (at least with my unit) unless you demand a quiet environment to work in. My power supply became erratic and started overheating so I bought a compatible one from Shenentech that does not have a fan. Very quiet. Anyone want to buy a used power supply?

1 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY AT ANY PRICE----SAVE YOURSLEF   August 21, 2007

I purchased this model 3yrs ago for Xmas 2004 when it was the latest technoloy.
My 1st unit stopped working after 2 months and only after a significant amount of aggrivation with customer support it was replaced under warrantee by viewsonic BUT ONLY with a rebuilt unit and I had to ship mine back to them in California first (good thing I had the box). Now that it is almost 3yrs old it will not turn on at all and the high voltage board is burnt out & not worth fixing. A product like this should last well beyond 3yrs. I certainly feel cheated and victimized. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM AT ANY PRICE. If I could I would rate this one negative 100.
It also goes without saying that this model is now obsolete and there are much more advanced lcd hdtv out there w/ better resolution, better contrast and HDMI connectivity.

5 out of 5 stars N2700W as a Computer Monitor   January 8, 2006

Best monitor I have owned. For people having trouble using this as a computer monitor, use a good video card, I am running a GeForse FX 5200 with 128 MB Ram. Set the computers resolution to the monitor's native resolution (1280 X 720). The software driver will set up the refresh rate a 60hz. Reset it to 72hz manually and everything will sharpen up to a crisp picture. You will have an unbelievable monitor. I am totally impressed. My power supply is not loud at all, it's hardly audible with the sound off.

Bought this TV on sale, but it has been one long headache. As another reviewer has reported, the TV has a very noisy power box which sounds like a loud whirring....I, also, called the company to complain, and they said they would send another box. A week later, they sent another of the same box. After calling the company, they had no advice. They realize that this is a design flaw, and have taken this TV off the market and discontinued it. So those who bought it, on sale, got stuck with something Viewsonic knew was a lemon. The noise is so loud at times, that you can hardly hear the TV. I will be returning the TV, but am very upset about Viewsonic's knowingly selling these off, discontinuing them, and leaving no recourse. I will be forced to buy a more expensive TV from a major manufacturer.
